KidType
In partnership with William H. Hannon Foundation and Beverley Royster and Friends

KidType is an award-winning program that motivates fourth-grade students to learn to touch-type with speed and accuracy. Students receive typing instruction after school for one hour a day, five days a week, for five weeks. Upon completion of the course, children earn a refurbished computer to take home.

KidType is also a simple solution to public problems: KidType addresses the “digital divide” by putting computers into lower-income homes. KidType students end up with a life-skill, touch-typing, that improves student performance and employability late in life. It also supplies a meaningful alternative for hardware that would otherwise go to landfills.

This year, The Riordan Foundation has an exciting new partnership with LA's BEST, where all of LAUSD's KidType grants will be coordinated by the LA's BEST office.
