for Reading, The Riordan Foundation's funding initiative
for all technology projects. Rx for Reading supports programs
in public and parochial elementary schools in Los Angeles

The Riordan Foundation proudly
supports organizations that promote the education and well-being
of young children and their families, and improve the quality
of life in Los Angeles. These direct grants are offered to
a small number of qualified non-profit agencies primarily
in the greater Los Angeles area. Funding priority is given
to technology initiatives, leadership development programs,
and school choice initiatives. Find out how

Rx for Reading programs include:

Computers in
the Classroom. Supports
the integration of technology with curriculum in K-5
classrooms. The grant includes computer hardware,
software, installation, and warranty. In 2006, we
added a Wireless Laptop Lab grant option. Teachers
select software from a pre-approved list. Read

Charter School Student Outreach
Grant. The Riordan Foundation recognizes
that charter schools in California operate on tight
budgets and that the costs associated with intense
student outreach efforts can be challenging. For this
reason, The Riordan Foundation, through Rx for Reading,
is offering grants in the range of $10,000-$15,000
for charter schools to conduct extensive student outreach.

English Language Development.
Supports oral language skill
development using technology in K-2 classrooms or
labs. The grant includes computer hardware, software,
installation, warranty, and training. Read more.

KidType. Motivates
fourth grade students to learn touch-typing in an after-school
program. Student participants receive a refurbished
computer upon completion. Includes fifteen refurbished
computers, instructor training, and stipend. Application

Recreational Reading
Mini-Grants. Provides
$1,000 for K-5 classrooms to purchase recreational reading
books for students to read at school and home. The 2007-

SMART Classroom Technology
Grant . Provides
K-5 classroom teachers with an interactive white board,
student response systems, and laptop computer to integrate
technology into the daily curriculum. Read

Waterford Early Reading
Program. Provides
K-1 classrooms with a comprehensive early-reading
curriculum. Grant includes computer hardware, WERP
software, installation, warranty, WERP training, and
take-home student materials including books, videos,
