Recreational Reading Mini-Grants
In partnership with the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation and PacifiCare Foundation

The Recreational Reading Mini-Grant Program (RRMG) awards teachers with a $1,000 grant to purchase books for a classroom library—books for fun that their students are able to take home. Since 1993, Rx for Reading has donated nearly $2 million in book grants through RRMG.

Through a partnership between Rx for Reading and three book-sellers: Barnes and Noble, Children’s Book World, and Perma-Bound, we establish $1,000 accounts for the winning teachers at their book-seller of choice, and arrange to have the books shipped directly to their schools. In prior years, teachers had to purchase books on their own time, then mail in receipts for verification. The new procedure expedites the process and reduces the amount of paperwork for the teachers.

How Schools Qualify
The grant is available for K-5 teachers to purchase recreational reading books for students to read at school and home. The grant period is now closed but will open again September 29, 2008!
